Want to volunteer as a therapist?
Yedei Or NPO invites therapists to contribute to the community by volunteering. We welcome therapists from all fields of complementary medicine, spiritual guides, and emotional therapists. Volunteering with Yedei Or offers a professionally enriching and emotionally rewarding experience, along with a symbolic payment of 50 NIS per treatment. Professional counseling is provided throughout the volunteering period.
We support patients with prolonged and complex illnesses, including cancer and muscular dystrophy, from all sectors of society. We place great importance on maintaining an ongoing therapeutic relationship, where a regular therapist meets with the patient weekly, providing care, listening, and personal attention. Often, significant and meaningful bonds are formed between the therapist and the patient as a result of continuous support during the journey of dealing with the illness.
The continuity of treatment is as vital to the patient's well-being as the treatment itself. Therefore, we ask therapists to commit to maintaining the therapeutic relationship for at least six months, if possible. Treatments are provided to the patient once a week. For patients with limited mobility, treatments will be conducted at their home, in a location convenient for the therapist. Mobile patients will visit the therapist's clinic. Each treatment session lasts between 45 and 60 minutes, and the therapist receives a symbolic payment of 50 NIS per session.
Therapists interested in volunteering will have an introductory phone call with the NPO's manager overseeing the therapist field. During this conversation, we will collect personal details, request photos of the therapist's certifications, and align expectations regarding the volunteering commitment. When a suitable patient reaches out to us, we will contact the therapist to offer the opportunity for treatment. We also provide background information on the patient's medical, functional, and family status, along with guidance on the illness if needed. After the initial session, we would appreciate hearing about the therapist's experience. Throughout the therapeutic relationship, we will maintain contact with the therapist and address any needs or challenges that may arise.
How does volunteering work?
Ariel Shkolnik, a Complementary Medicine Therapist and Volunteer at Yedei Or, Shares His First Meeting with Lev, an ALS Patient:
"Moving and heartwarming, the experience filled me with gratitude for the privilege of doing good. Meeting Lev was a truly positive experience for me. To be honest, when I first arrived at your home, I wasn’t quite sure what to expect, as I had only joined Yedei Or two weeks prior. I knew I was doing something meaningful that would warm the heart, but I quickly realized the immense joy shared by you and your wife, Yelena. Your home radiated with life and optimism. What can I say about you, dear Lev? There’s so much to learn and enjoy from your company. We laughed and talked about everything. These are the moments when it’s truly important to help, and there’s no question about it. I’m so glad I joined this amazing organization that fills the heart so much. For me, this organization is not just about giving; it’s a way of life. Lev, you have touched my soul. I highly recommend all complementary therapists to come and help—it truly fills the heart!"
A Partner of an ALS Patient Shares Their Experience:
"I saw a light return to her eyes; it reawakened her will to live and brought back hope. He spoke to her with patience and kindness, explaining that there is a way to help and that not everything in her life is bleak. I witnessed the understanding between them. He is an amazing person—understanding, caring, and never in a hurry. I was overjoyed to see the smile on her face, a smile that had been absent for so long. You are incredible, and it warms my heart to know that people like you are around us."
